Photos of the Fourth.

I had a very, very laid back 4th of July.  Complete with falling asleep before the fireworks even started… oops.

Over 15,000 steps before 11am

Many walks around the block with this guy #addicted

Not my house, I don’t live by palm trees ;)

The neighbors had this wonderful treat next door.  The stupid thing was going all day long and the kids spent about 46 minutes in it, screaming at the top of their lungs.  #awesome

No photo of this but it was the hottest 4th of July on record here, 101 degrees.  #insane

Lunch: Pesto and fresh mozzarella broiled on toast with peas, cherry smoothie and red and blue jell-o stars!

This movie was completely ridiculous… Barney Stinson (aka Neil Patrick Harris), Castle (aka Nathan Fillion) in a movie about really useless superheros.  At least it sort of masked the sounds of shrieking children coming from next door… sort of…

Homemade Lemonade Popsicles!

Dinner from the grill: burgers, french fries, beans and salad + more jello stars!

Not the most exciting of days but it was exactly what I needed for a holiday day that hit mid week.  Because sadly, it’s back to work for me today… yuck.

One Wish Wednesday: Week 7

Hummm…. what to wish for this week.  I already covered my holiday wish list and I am thankfully not fighting any IT Band or other running injury related issues this week and since Christmas is only four wake ups away, I think I will wish for a …brown Christmas.  Haha – I know, scrooge of me, but I am just NOT ready to start shoveling and driving in the snow… I know I am probably in the minority here but buying a house a few years back has given me a totally new un-appreciation for that white stuff… time to figure out that move to Hawaii I think!

Present transport is much easier without snow, FYI

But to continue with the Christmas theme, I have seen this Christmas survey around the blog world lately and thought it would be fun to add in my two cents…

Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?  Santa always wrapped/wraps presents.  Santa was also always smart enough to buy fresh wrapping paper that only Santa used because a certain someone (aka ME) would have figured it out otherwise.  Santa also had different hand writing for a similar reason… #toosmartformyowngood

Colored lights on tree/house or white?  White.  White.  White.

Do you hang mistletoe? Um, no.

What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?  What do you eat on holidays that is not dessert?  Kidding!  I always really like the snack fest we have every Christmas eve.  Taco Dip and Shrimp cocktail are two of my favorites!

Favorite Holiday memory as a child?  I actually have a lot of Christmas memories from when I was a kid but my favorite is probably always going to my Grandma Weaver’s house on Christmas day and having the BEST sugar cutouts ever.  No one can make them quite like she used to…  I also remember the first year we lived in our new house in Appleton, we got a tree that was probably 15′ tall!  I still remember feeling SO short next to that huge behemoth!  This was also the Christmas I got my first American Girl doll, which at the time was pretty much the highlight of my life!

Snow? Love it or dread it?  Used to love it.  Currently DREAD it!

Real tree or fake tree?  Um, real.  Sorry, its not a “tree” if it is plastic.  Sorry to offend ;)

What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?  Jesus’ Birthday!  And being with family.

What is your favorite Holiday dessert?  Cookies.  Duh!

What is your favorite tradition?  Even though Christmas day was when we got the majority of our presents when I was younger, Christmas Eve was and is my favorite night of the whole entire year.  The anticipation in palpable, snacks abound, Christmas Eve church is magical and driving around looking at neighbors Christmas lights is just plain entertaining!  We have been pretty consistent about this routine ever since I can remember and hope we keep it up for many more :)

What tops your tree?  Currently a red star.  But that changes based on the “theme” of my tree at the time!

What is your favorite Christmas Song?  Same Old Lang Syne by Dan Folgelberg.  It’s actually kind of a depressing song but for some reason, I like the originality of it compared to other holiday songs or something!

What do you leave for Santa?  Cookies and milk, of course!  And don’t even think about putting the cookies back in the box… I check.

Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?  Normally opening presents and having cookies for breakfast ;)  But also driving to Minnesota to visit the extended family.

Do you prefer to shop on-line or at the mall?  From here on out, online and online only!  I no longer have the patience to brave the shopping crowds at this time of year (or really any time of year…)  #oldlady

Like this survey? Keep it going and answer for yourself on your blog!  I’d love to hear your responses :)

Five Wake Ups!

When I was a kid, I always wanted to know “How many days until… my birthday, Christmas, vacation, etc.”  If my mom would answer “Five”  I would always come back with “Are you counting today and are you counting the actual day, I need you to be more specific” – lol!!  (Sadly, it probably sounded a lot like this as I was quite the kid…)  So my mom came up with a good response – aka Five Wake ups!  That way I always knew exactly what she meant when she said how many days I still had to wait.

Now that I am a little older ;) , I think this system still works pretty well.  It’s nice and specific and easy to understand.  And Christmas is only five wake ups away!!  Crazy, I know!!  But this is how I am planning to spend these next five wake up days…

Watching The Holiday-

I’ve already watched this twice but I think  I need to watch it at least one more time…

Eating lots and lots of sugar cookies :S (Probably a few too many ;) )-

PS – My sister is a cookie decorating snob.  Sometimes she won’t let me help because I am not perfect enough ;)  But luckily she still lets me eat them!

Spending time with this little cootie-

So darn cute!!

Looking at my Christmas tree that I love -

Promise it looks better in person, and there are many more presents under the tree now!

Wrapping and buying my last few presents-

And preparing to celebrate the Real Reason for this Season!

Happy Birthday, Jesus!

I hope everyone is enjoying this season, it is my favorite favorite :)  Happy Tuesday!

One Wish Wednesday: Week No. 6

Yes, this is a picture of my tree again. Sorry, I really like looking at it ;)

Wednesday again??  I am going to have to start thinking up a new theme for Wednesday’s post because I am running out of things to wish for… this week I had to think way too hard.  But maybe the fact that work has been super busy these last few weeks has kept my mind a little too preoccupied to come up with anything to “wish” for… So in lieu of not having any good ideas for some kind of serious actual wish, here is my “wish”-list for Christmas!

A Garmin.  I go back and forth on whether I want one or not because I don’t want to get obsessed with my pace but I ultimately decided it would be very nice to have to be able to measure distances, etc.  Just no obsessiveness…

Not necessarily THIS espresso machine but just AN Espresso machine.  And no, it is NOT EXpresso… I have seen this type-o at least 4 times in the last two days…

Again, not necessarily this jacket but just a new winter dress jacket.  My other coats don’t fit anymore and/or smell gross…

The rest of the Emily Giffin books I don’t already own (aka Love the One You’re With and Heart of the Matter)  I just re-read Something Borrowed and Something Blue and was reminded of just how much I LOVE her books.  The way she writes is just right :)

Also, a lifetime supply of Starbucks coffee might be nice!  Especially in the Iced and Latte form… I need a job that is not right across the street from this Joe!

And honestly, I will be happy with any present I get this year.  I actually have always (Ok, maybe just like the last 10 years) liked buying gifts for others and giving them more than actually receiving anything in return.  But you know, since I am wishing here, I can really wish for anything I want right, that’s the point?!?

What do you want for Christmas?
