Notes: I don’t remember a ton about this race but I remember it was POURING rain and I was soaked through to my socks before the race even started. It was so hot, humid and wet that the race went terribly… I remember having to stop at least five time to stretch my calves because the first part of the race was straight up hill and because I didn’t know any better, thought I would be able to practically sprint the whole thing… oops! But I finished! Obviously I did not get too into running races after this point as it was awhile until my next “official” run…
Appleton, WI, Fox Cities ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus Half Marathon - September 18, 2010
Time 2:12:56 Pace: 10:08
Notes: I started out training for the full version of this marathon but about 3/4 of the way through training I hit a wall or something and just could not get myself to run any further than 15 or 16 miles. I now see that is was because I was unable to eat or drink anything during these runs as I was not trained to do so and was just running out of gas
Luckily I was able to switch to the 1/2 marathon option (probably also wise to work my way up to such a distance). My mom and I went up to Appleton for the weekend for this race and Sister even drove up just on Sunday!! For some reason, I decided it was a good idea to try the South Beach diet right before this race, but um duh… running required CARBS! So my end of training for this race went horribly! Add to an already messed up nutrition plan, lots of carbs in the last few days before the race when your body was not used to digesting carbs and you can pretty much bet my stomach was NOT happy. I could hardly eat anything the day before the race (although I believe a few danish were consumed :S) so I feel my performance was not optimal but all things considered, I feel my time was not too bad. I was hoping for under 2:30 so I made that for sure!! I did not have to even take one walking break during this race, which was another goal I had!! (Random side note: I was just passed at the finish line by the winner of the competitive walk division, who I had a 5 minute head start on, and was over 70 years old – bah! Goal for next time??)
Concordia University Wisconsin President’s 5K – November 6, 2010
Time: 34:50 Pace: 11:13
Notes: I practically forced my sister to run this race with me and when we got there the morning of the race realized it was a Cross Country run… oops. Needless to say, we were blown past by the other people who were really running this for time when we just wanted to do it more for fun. Plus neither one of us was used to running in the grass and we felt this for DAYS! A certain sister was also poorly dressed for the weather… apparently she thought we would be running in the Arctic Circle? But we finished and I practically had to yell at my poor sister like 90% of the way because I didn’t want us to finish as the last two people (we came in second and third to last, thankyouverymuch!) But luckily the sis decided to give races another shot… after a few months of swearing never to do them again!!
