Leave Well Enough Alone.

Why can’t running shoe companies make consistently sized and fitted running shoes?  Consistency is kind of nice when it comes to running shoes but I just can’t seem to get anything consistent anymore.

A few months ago I switched to Nike running shoes and they fit awesome!  They were the Lunarglide 3s and they cured my running problems I had been having at the time.

i

Fastforward 3-4 months and of course they don’t make the “3s” anymore, they are now the “4″s… The person at Zappo’s assured me they were the same model so I ordered them up.  I wanted to save them until closer to Disney so I just ran in them today and guess what?!  Now I have awesome bloody ankle bones.  WTF!

I just don’t understand why they have to change shoes all the time!  It’s impossible to ever find any that fit that you can rely on!  I am remembering now why I had sworn off Nike’s and it’s this inconsistency that totally pissed me off.  I don’t have $100′s to just throw away on stupid running shoes that just cause me pain and blood.  And I’m sure Zappo’s really wants these shoes back now that they are destroyed…

What do I do now?  Do you have running shoe consistency problems or is it just me?

Some People.

Today I had a 1:50 training run on tap.  Sure “some people” could easily finish a half marathon in 1:50 but I am slowly starting to learn that I am not, nor will I ever be “some people” :)

Some people also do not spend their Saturday morning by setting their alarms to go off for a training run in the rather brisk Wisconsin morning.  I like to think they are the ones missing out on this one ;)  Yes, it is 41 degrees right now… HEAT WAVE :)

Those “some people” miss out on views like this…

Looks like glass...

Obsessed with ponds

Some people probably also thought I was out of my mind for stopping to take pictures while running – lol!!  Maybe I am a little bit?? ;)

Some people probably don't even know this little pond area exists! I didn't until this am

Yup, still running for chocolate :)

Some people (aka me) have a half marathon next weekend in Madison!!  And after my run this morning, I think I just might make it??  Some people may or may not have plans to dress up for this half marathon (I fall in the former category).  Should be interesting to try to run in a costume.  I can honestly say that is something I have never attempted before… I tried to find the lightest weight costume components possible but we shall see!  I would have done a practice run in my costume this weekend but I am afraid that would put me in my own special category of people – lol!  What you don’t run with a witch hat on your head?

PS – How do you differentiate between being the Wicked Witch and being Elphaba? Still trying to figure this one out… thinking maybe a T-Shirt that says something like “Did you hear the other side of the story??”

Some people will never learn that it is a State law in Wisconsin to yield to pedestrians in the cross walk… thanks dude…

Totally off topic of running but… Some people also don’t understand the meaning of 20 items or less at the grocery store check out… no, if you have 20 bags and about 15 coupons, you do not qualify for express self check out.  And no, if you have a cart overflowing with items you do not have 20 items or less unless you bought some REALLY big butternut squash (and man alive were the squash huge at the store this week!?)

It warmed up quite nicely out there today and the sun is shining!  I think sister and I will be making a trip to Target (good bye paycheck) and maybe taking a certain 8lb someone for a walk later… Enjoy your Saturday :)

What is one thing that people do that always makes you think to your self that they are a bit odd?

Wow.

Ok, long time no blog.  Sorry about that.  I have just not been feeling the running bug lately nor the blogging bug…hence the silence.  But maybe I will be back with a bit more regularity.  But no promises.  Well to break the ice since we are pretty much strangers again, how about I type up the 10 reasons I hate doing cardio at the gym and then next week I check this list and remember to plan accordingly…mkay?

1) 75% of the people at the gym are seriously half-asses their workouts.  Not sure why this perturbs me so much but seriously, kick it up a notch!

2) No matter how many empty treadmills there are, weird dude will inevitably choose to run next to you.

3) It is not OK to have some noise coming out of you that sounds vaguely like having a puking fit while you are running in a gym room, it’s gross and just plain not Ok?  Why would you think people want to hear that??

4) It’s always hot as Heck in there.  Do we really need to blast just warm air in a room where you are supposed to be breaking your own sweat?  Probably why those peeps from No. 1 feel like they are working hard enough…

5)  Running on a treadmill sucks.  Not like running outside is a laugh a minute, but seriously, why would you CHOOSE to run on a treadmill if you didn’t have to :S  (FYI, it was raining tonight, hence my caving into to run on the nasty beast instead of outside…)

6) It smells bad.  Like sometimes real bad.  And I know I contribute to this cause.  See No. 4.

7) Treadmills suck.  Oh wait, did I say that already??…blah!

8) Treadmills force you to go a certain speed.  That’s all fine and dandy until you decide to do a 10mph interval :D  Crazy!

9) You will get weird looks from people when going said 10mph on the treadmill.  Jealous ;)

10) But even though I am not a fan of cardio at the gym, I can’t completely hate of gyms because I am a total Body Pump junky.  Me like weights :D !!

On another note, I spontaneously ordered Insanity after seeing this review on Faith, Fitness, Fun the other day… So.Excited. for it to ship.  I am hoping this is the change of pace I need with my workouts right now.  Everything has been boring and “easy” feeling lately… thinking this will not be.  YEAH!

Busy Body.

So yesterday, I was almost arrested.  Ok, maybe that is a SLIGHT exaggeration but it was the closest I have some to it (well almost…)  The sis and I decided to take our little pup for an outing to the pet store to get more food for him and maybe a little prize but also wanted to run into Sport’s Authority to look for a few things and also to try to locate some Clif Shots.  Well, apparently we pulled in and parked next to the biggest Busy Body (or other five letter word that starts with a “B”) in Milwaukee county…  Apparently, she took it upon herself to call the COPS on us for letting the dog sit in the car for a whole whopping 20 minutes (which we really intended to only be ten but couldn’t find what we were looking for… but still…) in the mid 70 degree weather.  Yes, I know, GASP!  How could we do such a thing?!?!  And by the way, when we came out, the car was NOT hot and he was curled up on the seat, sound asleep!  But of course the cop managed to pull up right as we were about to leave.  Well, lucky for us, the cop thought this woman was off her rocker and told the women to head out but the lady was insistent on chewing me out for… well, I am still not really sure to be honest??!?!?!?!?  Because 1) it was not hot out?, 2) I did leave the window cracked as much as I normally do? 3) he was fine? and 4) we were on our way to the pet store and also to eat dinner downtown at a place that allows you to bring your dog to the patio.  So clearly, I am the worst pet owner in the world!  Jeepers, woman.  But it really pissed me off because if she wants to spend so much of her own time and energy trying to “make the world a better place”, I really hope she has a monthly donation she makes to the humane society, 37 stray animals and never eats meat because otherwise, she is being awefully hypocritical!  I understand that there are horrible people in the world but I was very insulted that she thought my sister and I were so horrible for spoiling our dog by bringing him along for an afternoon of fun… (FYI, he pretty much ate his weight in local grass fed beef at dinner so he was happy all the same even though the cop kinda scared him a bit :) )

So anyways, super annoyed at this woman and really wish I would have gotten her address to send her a little note telling her what I think about her but it is probably better if I don’t ;)  But I now have another thing to add to my pet peeve list Pet Peeve Item 324) Busy Body Women in their Black WASPY Gas Guzzling, Environment Polluting SUV Who Call the Cops on Me for Bringing my Dog Along to Go Shopping… But as another side note, the Brookfield police force has a bit of time on their hands so apparently it is a very safe place?!?!

Clearly this dog looks abused, right?

Switching Gears…

To another Body I made stay Busy :) This morning I made my sister get busy with a kick-a$$ workout/cardio circuit thing!  Now remember, I have zero training in exercise just LOTS of experience over the years…so don’t try any of this without checking with your doctor/trainer to make sure it OK for you and also if you hurt yourself, that is not because I told you to try this at home so proceed at your own risk!!

But this is what I cooked up for her! (She loved it by the way, I could tell by the way she kept telling me she was going to pass out and be sick ;) )

  1. 5 minute warm up walk to the high school track
  2. 1 lap around the track at a slow jog
  3. 1 minute intervals of the following with recovery time taken when needed
    • Squat Jumps
    • Walking Lunges
    • Burpees
    • 30 Seconds of full range bicep curls and 30 seconds of half range bicep curls (up to belly button)
    • Sprint 20 seconds, recover 20 seconds, sprint 20, recover 20
    • High Knees/Kick Butts?  (not sure what these are really called??)
    • Pushups for 30 seconds and the 30 seconds of push ups to side planks
    • Rows
    • Run (Ok, or walk and whine) up the risers at the stands
    • Tricep dips
    • Power Cleans
    • Jumping Jack
  4. Core: 20 Wood Choppers (each side), Side Crunches (10 each side for 2 reps, Plank (30 seconds-1min)
  5. Cool Down – aka walk back home.
It ended up taking about 50 minutes (*cough causefothewhining, *cough) but I am guessing could be done in about 35-55 minutes depending on your abilities.  I thought it looked fun but then again, I was mainly holding the stopwatch :D  But she said her metabolism felt sped up so hopefully that is a good sign!
Besides all these shenanigans, we had a pretty good weekend but tiring at the same time!  Hopefully this week will be a good one (and one free from stomach issues!!)  Boo to the end of another weekend though…  they always go so darn fast!
