Marathon Monday 4/23

Another Monday!? This weekend sped by way faster than usual due to traveling and there is no way this Monday is going to go well. I think I could sleep for about 3 days and it would not be enough. Plus I am tired of sitting in the car already and we have a 10+ hour drive next weekend for Nashville! Positive note, I have next Monday off so no “mondays” next week!!

So on to my training recap from the past week…btw yesterday marked FOUR weeks until the big day! Wow!

Tuesday April 17th – 5 miles: I tried out the galloway method again on this run and once again didn’t loose anything for pace. I think I averaged about 9:35 which is fairly normal for me for that distance and with no speed work involved. I really did once again notice how much less tired my legs were during/after running and this run did not aggregate anything which is also good!

Thursday April 19th – 6 miles: this morning I decided not to galloway to compare and found my pace was slower. It’s always hard to compare one run to the next but this one averaged right around 9:45. It also felt harder and mentally dragged on longer than when I have the little walk breaks.

Saturday April 21st – 9 miles: Since we needed to get going pretty early for our trip to Minnesota AND I had a much needed haircut at 8am, I needed to get this run done really early on a Saturday morning… It’s one thing to wake up at 4am on weekdays but on the weekend, it’s just torture. Plus I don’t get a sleep in day for another week so I’m extra sad about this wake up time! But it ended up being a pretty good run (Galloway again) and was finished by 5:30am! I think my average pace was about 9:50 but I haven’t had a chance to upload it to my computer yet so I’m just going off of memory. I ended up not taking any water or fuel for this run so I was actually quite surprised it went just fine! One positive note on the run time, I did get to run as the sun was coming up on a beautiful day so that was cool!

Sunday April 22nd – 4 miles: since I was in Minnesota, I couldn’t really cross train very easy so I decided to do a recovery run. My garmin was freaking out at me though so I’m not really sure how far I went but it was between 3 and 4 miles. These were done nice and slow as Galloway miles.

This week has left my legs feeling better than they have in a long time. I’m not sure if it’s the slower paces, the galloway method or the shorter distance of the week but hopefully it continues in this pattern. Looking at my training it seems more like the distances a half marathon would need, not a full but hopefully after Nashville, I can get in one more good marathon level week and then a twoish week taper. I’m planning to take it a little easy again this week to save my legs for Nashville so when everyone else is at peak for training, I’m slaking ;) Good thing I’m used to being the odd ball and going against the norm…

Happy Earth day one day late (but really we should all celebrate this day, every day) and have a good week!
