Marathon Monday: 3/19

When my alarm went off this morning, I was in denial it was Monday.  I was like, no way, can’t be Monday already?!?  But yes, yes it is…

My first marathon is now 2 months and 1 day away.  I honestly cannot believe it.  And after the weird combination of running this past week, I am very uncertain as to what will happen come race day.  Here is a recap of my training runs from the past 7 days:

Wednesday 3/14: 6 miles.  Besides it being really hard for me to run this long before work. This run was totally awesome!  It was warm and I was wearing shorts and a tank top and my legs felt fresh and fast.  I managed to run 6 miles in 51:20 seconds!  Average of 8:33!  I also was not feeling like I was pushing myself more than normal and was very consistent with my pace.  This is what I should have done on Saturday.

Saturday 3/17: Madison Shamrock Shuffle 10K.  This race went nothing like I planned.  This race humbled me.  This race made me very angry with running.  How can it be with me so much on Wednesday and then totally MIA on Saturday.  This is one thing I will never understand about running, how it’s always playing hard to get.  Next year Sister and I will be back for a redemption run but probably just the 5K?!  Also, this race taught me NOT TO  HAVE ANY GOALS FOR A RACE.  PERIOD.

Monday 3/19: 3 miles tempo with warm up and cool down.  I was so mad at running, I really was not sure how this run was going to go.  On Saturday I thought I would skip it but by this morning, I was more willing to give it a shot.  And it turned out to be just fine.  Clearly Saturday was a fluke occurrence and hopefully a one time thing…  This morning I ran fast but never felt like death like I did on Saturday.  I managed to average 8:40/mile for the three tempos.

It was an interesting week to say the least and also really low on mileage because of the whole only running 2 miles on Saturday.  Hopefully I have not messed myself up too much by missing that longer run and will be able to pull off another 18 miler this coming weekend.  I guess only time will tell…
