So, you may have noticed I didn’t blog this week… but you will be glad when you know the reason. It would have been tons of whining and complaining about how I “might never run again” blah, blah, blah. I am often quite dramatic and make the worst cast scenario what I am currently facing. I guess in some ways maybe that is good because at least then I never get disappointed when things are worse than I initially thought? Who knows… but I made the decision that whining about it on the blog was not going to make it any better so I just refrained. And to be honest, it was kind of hard to think about others running and my running in the past when I have been trapped in the house and/or going on walks instead of exercise that actually breaks a sweat…
Finally by Thursday things really started looking up in the back department. I went to the gym after work for a little low impact cardio and some free weights. After jogging 1 mile on the treadmill and biking a little bit, I lifted some weights in the free weight room (tangent note to self, avoid this place. everyone up there is super self-obsessed and stares at you like you don’t belong because you wander around trying to get away from all the really weird people
). Then I came home and did a short yoga DVD. After all this I was worried that it might be a little sore but the reverse turned out to be true! My back actually started to ache less and felt much more like normal! Despite the less than stellar time I had at the gym, my back was back!
Yesterday (Friday) was a “rest” day (although not sure what I am resting from currently…) but I decided to leave it as that to prepare me for a short run this morning. I did plenty of running around at work though so that had to count for something!
So back to this morning’s recovery run. Sister and I decided to run together so she could force me to not get too ahead of myself and run too fast or too far. We set out for a 5k run with a 5k walk back but were both really hungry so we revised that to be a 5K run, 1 mile walk, breakfast and then two mile walk with the pup! It has been unseasonable warm here this past week or so (another dig when I was prevented from running in it!) so it was actually not cold at all (for us!) – about 40 degrees! For being February 4th, it sure feels like Spring. I love this type of weather!
Long story, short. This run was AWESOME! I honestly never would have thought I would be so happy to run a 5K (and rather slowly at that) but after being cooped up inside and not running for 10 days, I was just so happy to run! Thursday’s one mile at the gym was nothing. I honestly kind of hated it and worried I was not as big a fan of running as before the back incident but after running outside this morning, I rekindled my love for running! I just am apparently an outside or nothing kind of person!
So I am going to take the next week or two to build back up to my training plan. I think 16 and I are not going to meet as quickly as I’d like but once we do, I now know who is going to come out ahead! SUCCESS!

U go 5k traynin widoud me? i no yik dat. i so fazt u trayn wid me!
You are too fast for me, that’s the problem. I can’t pull a 7:30 pace like you speedy Mcspeedster!
