Marathon Monday

Yeah, yeah.  So it’s not technically Monday but since yesterday was a holiday, I reserve the right to postpone Marathon Monday until a Tuesday ;)  This past week went really fast but I managed to get in all my scheduled training runs without a problem – even fitting a long run in on Christmas Eve!  Yes that did mean I ended up falling asleep watching Elf AGAIN!  Someday I will make it through that movie…….

Monday:  Easy Run, Distance 3 miles.

For some reason I thought this run was supposed to be only 2 miles so I cut it short a bit, unintentionally.  I also ran a lot faster than 10:40.  This was a very quick run, but I guess really should have been longer since apparently reading is not my forte… Note to self: 3>2

Wednesday :  Speedwork: 4 miles including warm up; 2 1600m @ 8:33/800m jogs; cool down

Wednesday was a really warm day for running and I left the house totally overdressed!  I ended up shedding my top layer and scarf within about 5 minutes. I also ended up somehow dropping my scarf on this run and then driving around the neighborhood trying to find it… Long story short, I FOUND IT!  And it was only all the way to the half way point ;)  Running-wise, I was right on pace and did a warm up run at about a 10:15 pace, 1 mile at around 8:30, a 1/2 mile jog at about a 10:00 pace, another mile at about 8:30 pace and then a slow cool down 1/2 mile or so.  I ended up averaging a pretty good pace this day because of the fast miles.  My legs felt really light this day, probably due to my lack of mileage on Monday ;)

Saturday: Long run, distance 9 miles at 10:40 pace.  This run is detailed more here but went really well.  My iPod put my pace at about 9:45 but I will be interested to see what my real pace is on this coming Saturday’s run since now I have a Garmin watch that does not lie!!! Could be quite the walk up call…

Overall, the weeks running went really well and I think my plan to run 3 days a week will be a good amount.  Even though I would like to run more days a week, my legs seem to do much better and run much quicker when I have less running days per week. So we shall see!

Anyone else struggling with being back to work and the real world today?  It felt extra rough to me for some reason… Happy MondayTuesday!

  1. Good job on staying on your schedule despite the holidays! I definitely did not which is bad since I have a half marathon in less than 3 weeks!

And I don’t really like Will Ferrel, but I LOVE Elf. You need to watch it!

    • Thanks! But I bet you will still do fine even with a break. Sometimes breaks can be good :) And I know what you mean about Will Ferrel. Not his hugest fan but I LOVE Elf (or at least the first 45 minutes of it that I have been conscious for ;) )
